Miss LiBEARty - Patriotic Bear Statue of Liberty by Crystal World
Like the real Statue of Liberty in New York, this proud crystal patriotic bear, Miss Libearty, holds a burning torch, representing liberty, in her right hand and tablet in her left hand.
Statue of Liberty Facts
The original Statue of Liberty was built in France by sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. It was presented as a gift to the USA from the people of France in 1885, in recognition of the French and American alliance during the American Revolution and to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence, some ten years earlier. The hollow copper statue, built on a framework of steel supports designed by Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc and Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, was finished in France in July 1884. For transit from France to America, the Statue was disassembled into 350 pieces and packed in 214 crates, which travelled across the Atlantic on a French ship called the "Isere". The Isere landed in New York harbor on 19th June 1885. The Statue was reassembled on Bedloe's Island, and assembly was completed on 28th October 1886. Bedloes Island was renamed Liberty Island in 1956. The Statue's full official name is Liberty Enlightening the World. The seven rays of her spiked crown symbolize the seven seas and continents. The height from the ground to the tip of the torch is 305 feet 1 inch. There are 354 steps inside the statue and its pedestal, and 25 viewing windows in the crown.
As well as its original meaning, the Statue of Liberty has come to represent freedom and justice for all.
